O Grammy é o prêmio mais prestigiado da indústria fonográfica, tendo os seus vencedores escolhidos pela National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences dos Estados Unidos (Academia Nacional de Artes de Gravação e Ciência dos EUA).
Concorreram ao Grammy aquelas canções e álbuns que foram lançados entre o período de 1 de outubro de 2014 a 30 de setembro de 2015; os indicados foram revelados no dia em 7 de dezembro de 2015. Pela primeira vez na história a cerimônia de entrega dos prêmios foi realizada em uma segunda-feira; o fato ocorreu para aproveitar o feriado prolongado do Presidents Day nos EUA.
Kendrick Lamar foi artista que mais recebeu indicações, 11 no total. Com isso, ele passou Eminem como o rapper com o maior número de indicações em uma única noite, além de ficar em segundo lugar geral atrás apenas de Michael Jackson, que teve 12 indicações em 1984. Taylor Swift e The Weeknd aparecem em segundo com 7 indicações cada. Pelo quinto ano consecutivo, a apresentação da premiação foi comandada por LL Cool J.
